About Me


Dr. Emily F. Winerock is co-founder and co-director with Linda McJannet and Amy Rodgers of the Shakespeare and Dance Project. Her research specialization is the history of dance in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century England and Europe.

Dr. Winerock is a graduate of the doctoral program in history at the University of Toronto, holds a M.A. in Early Modern History from the University of Sussex, and received her B.A. in English from Princeton University.

Currently, she is an adjunct lecturer at Point Park University in the Dance Department. Previously, she was a Visiting Scholar in English and a Visiting Assistant Professor of History at the University of Pittsburgh. She has also been a Visiting Scholar at the Women's Institute at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA, and taught in the Western Heritage Program at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI.

A scholar-practitioner, Dr. Winerock choreographs for theatre and dance productions and has taught Renaissance dance workshops in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. She is the convener of the Early Dance Working Group for the Dance Studies Association and the moderator of the Dance Historians Network on LinkedIn.

Dr. Winerock is married to computational chemist Dr. Chris Wilmer, an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Wilmer is a co-founder of the start-up companies NuMat Technologies, Aeronics, and PawPrint Oxygen. He is also a founding editor of the cryptocurrency journal Ledger and the author of Bitcoin for the Befuddled. Dr. Winerock's line of science-themed ties based on Dr. Wilmer's research are available at the Zazzle storefront: Winerocks.
