Tom's Homemade Bread

Tom might have been a latecomer to Flat 13, but he proved his worthiness with this recipe at his first Sunday Dinner...

Ingredients:
500g of Strong Wholemeal Flour for Bread
2 teaspoons of instant dried yeast
2 teaspoons of salt
1 teaspoon of sugar
2 cups of hot (not boiling) water

Time: 2.5 hours
Yield: 1 loaf

Directions:

1. Mix all the dry ingredients together.
2. Add half the water. Mix with a wooden spoon to
form dough. Keep on adding the rest of the water until all the flour has been absorbed.
3. Roll the dough in a ball and place on a well-floured
board (with flour on the side to add if the dough is
very sticky). Knead the dough for about 5 minutes.
KNEADING = pushing right hand knuckles in the right
side of dough & with left palm pushing the left side of
dough away from you.

4. Place in bowl, cover with cloth, and leave to rise
for about 1 hour.
5. Place in an oven at 190c for about 40
minutes.
6. After 40 minutes, it's worth placing the bread
upside down in the oven for about 10 minutes to cook
the bottom.
7. Leave to cool, and gobble it up.

"Voila, that probably seems a bit complicated, but once
you do it once or twice, it’s very easy." -- Tom
