The Bard's Galliard...

or How to Party like an Elizabethan

The Script

The Bard's Galliard... or How to Party like an Elizabethan is an original one act play written for my senior thesis project at Princeton University. Putting the results of my undergraduate research (see research thesis) into practice, The Bard's Galliard is a lively introduction to dancing in the plays and time of William Shakespeare.

The script is comprised of "Renaissance Court Dance 101" and seven Shakespeare scenes, from Romeo and Juliet to Henry VIII. The dances include original choreographies as well as by-the-book reconstructions. The performance in April 1999 also featured live music, elaborate costumes, audience participation, and period refreshments.
